sorry to hear that, best of luck in your search. I wouldn’t follow in the footsteps of Carrie though, just saying.
Thank you :)
Good advice, I’d hate the possibility of being tricked onto a train with a loonie love sick man.

Sister Carrie is such a great book, still feels fresh and relevant over 100 years later.
Completely agree! It’s even more relevant for me right now because I just lost my job and I’m on the hunt for another one. I feel like Carrie when she first moved to Chicago and was out on the town looking for someone to hire...

Rad! I’m moving to SF this year. You will love all the vegan food up here!
SEE? This is just another reason for me to be there!

Look for places in Ingleside and the Sunset. They usually have cheap rent, the neighborhoods are quiet family/student areas, and they’re a short bus ride to SFSU.
Thank you very much for letting me know!
Anonymous asked: Any good books you've read lately?
Vegan problems.
My vegan cheese slices got mixed with the dairy cheese slices.

I feel the same way. Damn NY for being so far and expensive.
It’s not even possible for me to imagine moving out there.

Hey! I live 5 minutes from and SF state. There’s PLENTY of housing options around campus. Just type in Park Merced. They pretty much own all the villa houses and towers where students live. There are also craigslist listing for Parkmerced too.
Thank you so much for the advice!

Seize the Day by Saul Bellow is so depressing.
It’s all about the burden of being yourself.

I'm transferring in the Fall of '13
I really want to apply to Cal State San Francisco and get my Bachelors in English. One problem: Housing is priority for Freshman only and not transfers.
Who lives in San Francisco and wouldn’t mind a vegan roommate next year?
All the publishing jobs and internships are in New...
I’m finally filing for graduation this summer and preparing for the onslaught of applications that I’ll have to fill out later this year and I’m both excited and nauseous about it. I’m finally leaving but I’m also not going very far in terms of distance which puts a dent on wanting to get an internship in publishing.
There aren’t many choose from here in LA...

Oh by the way.
I tried the VG Rollers at the Veggie Grill and they were fantastic! Next thing I’ll be trying will be the crab cake and maybe the parfait. Yummm.
Baking soon: Newman O’s brownies. I don’t even have a recipe yet but I’m imagining it and it doesn’t seem like it should be very complicated.

Vegan satchels.
I need a new vegan leather satchel bag for my books because the one I currently have is falling apart. Are there any designers you would recommend or a style of bag? I’m so clueless in this department. I checked Lulus.com and there is one bag I’m interested in but I wanted to put this question out there before I purchase anything.

Confession Time
I look for minor personality and physical characteristics in order to justify my sudden disinterest in a guy. Really, it’s because I have this fear of not being good enough.
I’m working on it.

Seven reasons you should reach out to every person... →
I arrive on campus every morning at around 7:45 in the morning and to waste time I scour the archives of my favorite websites. I should be reading the last one hundred pages of Dreiser’s Sister Carrie but flipping through the pages on Hello Giggles is way more fun!

Interview with an English Major.
I’ve been thinking about interviewing English Majors on campus and posting those interviews online. Our Page Turner’s blog is feeling pretty one sided and I think students might get more out of it becomes more interactive.
It’s a fun idea and one I’m excited on pursuing. It’ll give me and other English Majors a peek inside the minds of other like minded people. Why...

Feeling pretty good right now.
I emailed the manager of a new independent bookstore opening near my college to ask her if she would be interested in talking to our club members about the independent book industry and what it’s like to manage one.
I thought it would be informative and fun for our members to hear this information from someone actually involved in this difficult business. Anyways, I received an email back...
Success
It means something different to everyone right? As an English major I’ve been taught to always consider the many definitions a word can have according to the person, the context, the time, the society, and the environment. There are many factors to consider.
To me it means to do the best you can, with you have, where you are.

Independent Bookstores
This month during one of our club meetings I’m going to inform all the members about the nearest independent bookstores that they can visit and support. Showing them the number of bookstores that have closed down in the last year will give them a “big picture” look of how important their business is to these bookstores. I’m also planning on emailing independent book store...
Page Turners 2012
Our first meeting is next Thursday and I’m going to be speaking to whoever shows up as their Vice President and I’m both excited and nauseous to think about it.
I get panicky when I have to take responsibility over something I care deeply about. What if nobody want’s to help with our book drive or show’s up to our meetings at all? What if I’m the only person that...
