peepchick101 asked: Farm Sanctuary, Gentle Barn, and Animal Acres (three southern California farmed animal sanctuaries) are incredible, wonderful places and I highly recommend visiting any of them if you get a chance. I love going to farm sanctuaries... it reminds me why I'm vegan :)

Standing While Brown: A White Lady Tried To Get Me... →

Representing Pocho.com, I was a panelist along with a table full of young, savvy Latino digital media types as part of last week’s Digital LA Latino Content event. Afterwards, I finished up networking and headed outside to leave. As I waited to get my car in front of the host restaurant in Beverly Hills, you’ll never guess what happened: A white lady...
Not just a book club.
Page Turners is El Camino’s English Major’s club on campus and this week is club rush and we’re the new guy. I think people, upon their first impression, assume we’re a book club and to be honest that sounds a bit boring. Yes we are dedicating one book to month but that is hardly what we are offering the student on our campus.
It’s a club that will provide you with...

It’s still going to be “oh my god you’re so short!” The photos will be hilarious.
I’m going to completely dwarf you. My head might even threaten to get cut off in the pictures, oh dear. P.S. Your fliers are making the rounds and people are LOVING the QR code!

Ya basically. I had a boyfriend who was more than a foot taller than me. My brother is also more than a foot taller than me. My dad is almost more than a foot taller than me.
Well this...

Zucchini Surprise!
Here’s how you do it:
Chop an onion, a tomato, and some cilantro and heat over a pan.
In a separate pot heat some chopped zucchini with half a cup of water, salt, vegetable oil, and basil.
Then combine and mix together! Serve over rice, yumm. The surprise is that this actually tasted good and I didn’t burn anything.

confessionsofthediarist replied to your post: First Day of Spring Semester
Sounds like you go to a private liberal arts school in financial crisis. That’s my college’s situation and it seems strangely similar to what you’ve described. And we just started spring semester last week.
It’s actually a public community college. Yeah, It’s hard to be a student right now, especially in...
First Day of Spring Semester
My British Literature Professor began class by letting us know how we are all in deep shit. Basically, that’s how it felt.
She reminded everyone about how bad things are in El Camino and in every school in California. It’s a fact that I find myself, and many other students do as well, ignoring. The day is easier to get by when you pretend like the school isn’t impacted...

16-Year-Old Brings Books to 99 Villages in Africa →
“At 12 years old, Tatiana Grossman learned that many kids in Botswana and Malawi didn’t have books to read. She wanted to help by hosting book drives, but says she was “so shy” at the time.
“I barely had any friends,” Tatiana remembers, but “I stepped out of my comfort zone and realized it wasn’t about me. It was about the kids who needed the books...

Prop 8: too soon to celebrate too much →
gaywrites:
Yesterday was a huge day for gay rights advocates, as the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals voted that California’s Prop 8 is unconstitutional. But this doesn’t mean the war is over.
For one thing, the case will almost certainly be appealed, but it’s not certain whether the Supreme Court will grant review. Even if it does, the vote will very likely be divided and could come down...

“Student-loan debt is pushing an increasing number of young people and their parents toward bankruptcy, according to a survey released Tuesday.
More than four-fifths of bankruptcy attorneys say they’ve seen a notable jump in the number of potential clients with student-loan debt in the last few years, with nearly half the lawyers reporting a significant increase in such cases, according...

It just doesn't seem fair
Those dogs that attacked the man on my street haven’t received proper training and spent most of their time fenced off in a yard. I just heard that they’ve been declared too dangerous by animal control and will be put down. I wonder if the owner will be fined? I’m not too up to date on what the procedures are for these sort of attacks.
